About Good News about Africa

Good News about Africa is a social news site collecting uplifting and positive “good news” stories from and about Africa.

Bad news and scaring people might sell more copy and there are enough of that already. So Good News about Africa is little spot to celebrate the positive and help publicise the fact that there are many exciting things going on in Africa.

Articles from grass roots bloggers to large news corporations are welcome, if a story is about Africa and has a positive angle it's welcome on Good News about Africa.

Below is a break down of what the site does and how you can use it in a Question and Answer format.

What is a Social News Site?
Social news websites are sites where anyone can submit stories or articles to share with others. Good News about Africa is a social news site only focusing on positive news stories from and about Africa. It has a number of subcategories, like Education, Tech, Travel etc. for specific interests.

Other examples of social news sites are Digg and Reddit (cover all topics) or Sphinn which is specifically about digital marketing.

What's the point of Social News Sites?
There are a few reasons for them:

  1. As good as they are search engines like google can't find everything. In the case of finding positive blog posts or articles about development or travel in Africa can take a bit of digging.
  2. Good News about Africa is human edited so stories found here are relevant and on topic.
  3. Readers and users help the editing process by voting on stories they like or think are good.
  4. It's a community to meet and network with like-minded people, members can PM (private message each other).

Why Good News About Africa?
I was born in Africa (south Africa), travelled fairly extensively throughout but currently live in London and really miss it. Having always had an interest in the continent and wanting to find out what's going on at a grass roots level I often found it hard to get that info. So I thought I would try and change that and to add more focus I made it positive news only.

Who runs Good News about Africa?
GNaAfrica is a side project mixing a couple of my passions, web dev and Africa. In a small way I hope to help bring information together along with like minded citizens of the world. So please vote/comment on a story, tell a friend or link to help the good news rise to the top.
